this is a rundown of the ranking of angels and demons in hvoe. its not really important to know the names.

The top of the angelic rank is God. It isn't certain that God is an angel at all. God creates the majority of angels and dispatches them as necessary. God has immeasurable power.

theta angels: administrative angels that oversee other angels. they have massive amounts of power and can control other angels. considered second-in-command.

gamma angels: employed in swarms to handle outbreaks of demons. could be thought of as an angel task force. are highly specialized in their abilities to handle soulscape or corporeal power.

sigma angels: angels that have a great deal of power. administrate delta angels and preserve the safety of purified areas through noncombatant means.

delta angels: angels that oversee a larger area than tau angels. they can oversee tau angels in their region, but they also are obligated to eliminate demons as necessary.

tau angels: largely considered the "first bound angel", but considered a rank above accidental angels. many populate a small area and eliminate demons through combatant or non-combatant means. they are obligated, but not required, to follow instructions from higher angels.

nu (accidental) angels: unstable formations of humans and angels. occurs when a human attracts and absorbs a compatible angel, binding them together. they tend to be incomplete, and may not even realize that they are angels. they have similar abilities to tau angels with less power.

angels rank up by proving themselves "worthy". whatever that means...

rather than ranks like angels, demons are organized in subsets based upon the main sin they embody. there are very powerful demons for each sin, which influence bound demons of their sin, who have control over unbound demons in their vicinity.

bound angels form halos, and bound demons form horns. these are a part of their body, and are essentially the source of an entity's power. this post is just to detail some of the abilities of halos and horns, respectively.

-allow communication between angels within the same zone
-call unbound angels to an area
-act as a small portal to the soulscape (it cannot necessarily transfer someone's body to the soulscape, but instead allow them to borrow energy from it or put things into it)
-can be transformed into a weapon form. this weapon form can separate energy from matter and banish it to the soulscape. (this turns the energy into vessel-less souls; the matter will dissipate and be returned to the earth.)
-look really cool
-could probably be bent into cool shapes

-allow communication between demons in the same zone
-control unbound demons in the area
-act as a small portal to the soulscape
-can be transformed into a weapon that can separate matter from energy and banish it to the corporeal realm. (essentially, demonic weapons will cause something to become a soulless husk. the energy will dissipate and be used in other creatures.)
-look really cool
-cant be bent into cool shapes. haha suckers

while similar, there are clearly some differences between them. its fun

in hvoe, there's two main dimensions, the soulscape/incorporeal and the corporeal (sometimes nicknamed meatscape. good ole meatscape). they intersect and cannot exist without the other. the intersection between them is where all creatures exist.
the soulscape is where many mystical things are possible. it is majority energy-based with its structure being controlled by the matter from the corporeal realm. the corporeal realm, in contrast, relates to matter, which is given energy from the soulscape.
everything, to some extent, exists in both dimensions. however, depending on a creature, it may have more domain in one or the other.
for example, humans are almost half and half, with their minds in the soulscape and their bodies existing in the corporeal realm. the connection between the two realms, in humans, is very small, so they cannot travel closer to one or the other.
unbound entities are largely in the soulscape, but can be give influence in the corporeal world through a human soul.
bound entities develop a stronger connection between the corporeal and incorporeal than humans. this is what allows them to see unbound entities, and summon abilities from the soulscape.
as a bound entity ascends ranks, it develops an even stronger connection, being able to freely move between the two domains and gaining abilities from both.

Because humans have equal domain between corporeal and incorporeal, many angelic and demonic attacks will not hit them. For example, being sliced by an angelic weapon would feel similarly to being hit with a blast of air.

The larger the difference in domain between dimensions, the greater vulnerability a creature has, because it can be destabilized easier.

Angels and demons are both 'cut from the same cloth' in the world of Heaven on Earth. They behave very similarly, but have different traits that evolved over time, as well as inherent differences, being the forces of good and evil. Angels and demons are called entities or beings.

Both angels and demons can be 'unbound' or 'bound'.

Unbound entities:

Unbound entities are the first formation of entities. Demons and angels are born unbound.

Unbound entities are incorporeal, ubiquitous, and fairly weak on their own. They frequently come in hordes to spread their influence further.

Unbound entities affect the corporeal world subtly by changing the 'mood' surrounding them. An abundance of angels will create a positive, 'clean' attitude in the people they surround. An abundance of demons breed negativity and sin.

Unbound entities have different types based on traits. Much like animals, some will be more specialized towards a specific duty or behavior.

If two compatible (of the same type) unbound entities come in contact with each other, they nullify. Nullified entities are neither angel nor demon. They are simply taking up energy in the world.

Unbound entities will not attack bound foes unprovoked. This is to prevent damages. However, if one unbound entity is provoked, all nearby entities in its horde will attack as well.

Unbound entities seek to become bound. Binding is the process of joining a corporeal host in body and mind. The process of binding is very complicated and frequently must be orchestrated by a higher power to be completed. Binding, similar to nullification, must occur between compatible entities. Bind compatibility is less relevant to the process of binding as compared to null compatibility. Binding without a higher power occurs when a person is so overtaken with an unbound entity's particular trait (charity, greed, lust, etc.) that they open a place in their mind for that entity to enter. These bound entities are often unstable and may split before binding is complete.

Unbound entities can infect a bound entity. An infection is an attempt to override the previous unbound entity and thus create a new bound entity. For example, if an unbound demon infects a bound angel, there is the risk of that bound angel becoming a bound demon. Bound entities, having the vulnerabilities of the previous unbound entity and the strength of the host, are the only beings capable of being infected in this way. Infections are rare and often do not succeed in creating a new bound entity. Most wounds are treated before an infection can even occur.

Unbound entities serve a higher power. Unbound angels serve God, while unbound demons serve an evil force. Unbound entities do menial tasks and are directed by their higher powers. Unbound entities may be sent to a specific area to change the mood, nullify other unbound entities, or bind. Because they are weak, they cannot perform complex tasks.

Bound entities:

Bound entities are the combination of a corporeal host and a previously unbound entity. The main characters of Heaven on Earth are bound angels. Bound entities are one entity, but they maintain the traits of both the host and the previously unbound entity, whether obviously or not.

Binding is a process that takes time. After the initial 'fusion', the two entities will slowly become one bound entity. If incompatibilities are found, the bind will split. This is why non-facilitated binding is frequently unstable and prone to splitting.

Bound entities have agency. Bound entities are independent. They are instructed by a higher power, but they cannot be forced to act on that instruction just because they were told to. They are, however, inclined to act on the instructions of a higher power. This is because they share the traits of their previously unbound entity.

Bound entities are strong. Bound entities have dimensions. They are more than corporeal entity and more than unbound entity. They share the weaknesses and strengths of corporeal and incorporeal entities, and are greater than the sum of their parts.

Bound entities are more than good or evil. They are inclined towards one or the other, but can be sinful or pure regardless of their previously unbound entity's alignment.

Bound entities have powers depending on whether they are an angel or a demon (These powers will be detailed in a separate post).

Bound entities have different ranks based upon their performance and usage of their power. These ranks provide incentive to follow the instructions of their higher power. Ranking up grants more power to the bound entity.

Bound entities following their higher power can be combatant or non-combatant. NC entities manually intervene and exercise power over their local mood. NCs use their abilities to attract unbound foes for C entities. NCs also can purge nullified entities. C entities fight and exterminate their unbound and bound foes.
